Do you ever feel like taking a mini-break from your real life? Is your trip to France approaching à grands pas* and you want to supercharge your skills before you boarding l’avion*? Or are you simply chasing un peu d'inspiration*?
On the Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September 2024, Lingua Franca is creating the perfect environment for you to do just that. With four ateliers to choose from as well as a délicieux* dinner at a French restaurant to complete the weekend, this is your chance to immerse yourself in French language, cuisine and culture.

We've divided the weekend into four parts: Saturday AM, Saturday PM, Sunday AM and Sunday PM and there's a different atelier (workshop) for each.
There's a mixture of approaches for every workshop, from académique* to pratique* and of course ludique*, because we know happy brains learn best.
You decide the extent of your immersive experience. You choose how many workshops you'd like to do: un, deux, trois ou quatre*.
You can also come with us to our local restau*, The Continental Café, on Saturday night, to complete the immersive experience. We’ve organised a classic French dinner there paired with fantastic wines, a relaxed feel and even une petite surprise*.
For maximum authenticity, we've invited our amis français* to come along as well. Each atelier will feature a visit from a surprise guest, giving you the chance to get to know more about them, their home town, their interests, passions and culture. Of course, we'll be there too, expertly supporting and guiding you to make sure you get the very most from the expérience*.

Q: Where is this weekend held?
A: Here au nid* (Lingua Franca, 884 Brunswick St, New Farm) for the workshops and the charming Continental Café (also in New Farm) for le dîner*.
Q: What if I did the last one? Will the material be different?
A: Yes. While we're keeping similar topics for the workshops, the content will be entirely new.
Q: What if I'm not an advanced student?
A: That is no problem at all, in fact, we welcome students of all levels as immersion does not discriminate in its benefits. Remember, the idea with immersion is that you learn without being conscious of it. So, as long as you're prepared to not understand absolutely every word, you will still pick up an enormous amount through gestures, tone of voice, and facial expressions as well as other sensory clues such as sounds and smells.
Q: Will the day be conducted entirely in French?
A: In short, yes it will. We want this to be as true a French immersion as possible without being in France. You'll be provided with some French/English notes for each session but it is up to you as to whether you look at them on the day or just keep them for later.
Q: Is this only open to current Lingua Franca students?
A: No, you do not have to be a student to attend. Plus on est de fous, plus on rit*.
Q: Why is the dinner limited to the workshop participants?
A: We love having your friends and family along to our other events, but to provide the most immersive experience as possible for the participants, we keep the dinner French-speaking as well.
