The numbers are often one of the first things we learn when we start our French adventure. They’re quirky and fun to learn but then we often forget about them in the rush to absorb everything else.

It’s only when we’re faced with a ‘real-life’ situation (shopping for clothes, catching a train, asking the time, buying groceries) that the importance of knowing your numbers hits home. And it’s not only knowing them, but knowing them out of order so you don’t have to start run through the whole series to find the number you need.

As always, we’ve graded them according to difficulty and have included the dreaded bêtes noires*, which are the same for everyone almost without exception: 4, 5, 14, 15 and 40 and 50 (did you think you were the only one to find these tricky?)
